GATEWAY ACUPUNCTURE
What is acupuncture?
More and more people are experiencing the benefits of acupuncture. Acupuncture is the insertion of very
fine needles into the body at specific points, which has been proven effective in treating many different
health conditions over thousands of years! These points are located on meridians or pathways of energy
that are coursing throughout the entire body. These pathways connect our internal organs with the
acupuncture points, situated externally on the skin. Acupuncture points act as gateways or portals linking
the physical body to more subtle energetic fields. When one's Qi is imbalanced, it can lead to either a
deficiency or excess of energy, manifesting in many ways from physical to emotional disturbances.
Treating all types of conditions, Jack utilizes a meridian style approach, and uses very thin needles to
rebalance the Qi and relieve pain. For those who feel uncomfortable about needles, non-insertion methods
such as massage and acupressure, in addition to acupressure tools are effective in treating a wide variety
of illnesses.
Does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture has been utilized for over 2000 years by health professional because of its effectiveness in treating
a wide array of conditions. Additionally, it is a non-invasive alternative to surgeries and prescription medications
for those seeking a holistic approach to therapy.
According the National Institutes of Health:
"Acupuncture as a therapeutic intervention is widely practiced in the United States. . . . [P]romising results have
emerged, for example, showing efficacy of acupuncture in adult postoperative and chemotherapy nausea and vomiting
and in postoperative dental pain. There are other situations such as addiction, stroke rehabilitation, headache,
menstrual cramps, tennis elbow, fibromyalgia, myofascial pain, osteoarthritis, low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome,
and asthma, in which acupuncture may be useful as an adjunct treatment or an acceptable alternative or be included in a
comprehensive management program. Further research is likely to uncover additional areas where acupuncture
interventions will be useful."

Is acupuncture safe?
When acupuncture is performed by a qualified practitioner it is very safe. In 1996, the United States Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) approved the use of solid, metallic needles for acupuncture. Only pre-sterilized, disposable needles
are used. This insures that there no transmission of disease from patient to patient.
What does acupuncture feel like?
The needles are so small that sometimes patients do not realize that the treatment has begun as the needle is inserted.
Occasionally, there will be areas that are more sensitive than others, but generally there is almost no discomfort.
What is massage therapy?
Every massage session is tailored to suit your unique needs and Jack's massage style is a combination of Eastern and
Western techniques. Often a therapeutic crème containing herbs is applied which helps to reduce inflammation and pain.
Depending upon what is going on with your body, mind and spirit, specific acupressure points are also activated with
varying degrees of pressure. Whether you prefer a light relaxing or a deeper tissue therapeutic massage, the choice is yours.

How many treatments are needed?
The number of treatments needed to alleviate specific conditions differs from individual to individual and depends

chronic ones. Initially, in acute conditions, multiple treatments may be required the first couple of weeks and then
gradually reduced to once a week until only maintenance treatments are needed.
What can I do between visits to feel better?
Breathing is natural, yet few people do it correctly. Breathing properly is essential for a better quality of life. It will
help you to get in touch with yourself and connect to a calm place within. Jack will demonstrate healthful breathing
